"Not Just Nudies"
An artist statement by Alisha Lezama, Kaleyedascopize: Unleashed Arts
As a self-taught artist, I began experimenting with figurative art from the very beginning of my journey into acrylic painting. The female body captures Divine energy in every facet, & I wanted to encapsulate that on to canvas for aesthetic pleasure. These beginning pieces were created strictly for fun & for my own enjoyment.
Until fate intervened, & my paths crossed with my very first living Muse.
I was approached by my Rose at the Allentown Art Festival where some of my small scale nudes were on display. With their bright iridescent colors and erotic nature, I hardly expected them to be the hot-ticket item among my other more contemporary art pieces. My Rose then commissioned a full body portrait of herself in commemoration of her beautiful body before she had to undergo a mastectomy operation for breast cancer. And in that moment, a seed was planted that bloomed into more & more celebrations of the female body. Inspired by her bravery & her story, more women came to me seeking to be immortalized through paint, to embrace their flaws & fears & allow themselves to be one with their bodies. I am eternally grateful to Rose, my Flower for inspiring such a movement & becoming a beloved important person in my life.
Although at first glance you see the sexy, playful, perhaps a little naughty nature of this art, there is so much more than just erotica below the surface.
Thank you to the stunning models who continue to share themselves with me so I can share our art with you all.
